Family Road Trip Survival Guide for the Summer Holidays

November 8, 2023 By Rokkit

Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone, and John Burroughs For about two weeks every summer between 1914 and 1924, a group of friends who called themselves the Four Vagabonds would climb into their Model Ts and hit the open road, travelling to some of the United States' most scenic areas, stopping off and setting up overnight camps along the way. CMH-Kempster-Ford-Randburg - Four Vagabonds But these weren't your average Americans. They were none other than Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone, and John Burroughs. And the motorcade of up to 50 vehicles, which transported the celebrity Vagabonds, sometimes their wives, their household staff, and all the equipment they could possibly need for a comfortable holiday, was captured by Ford Motor Company photographers. These high profile 'glamping' adventures undertaken by pre-eminent members of society fired public imagination. And the phenomenon of road tripping as an affordable way for ordinary families to satisfy their wanderlust soon spread to other parts of the world, including South Africa. With almost 750,000km of roads criss-crossing the country - the tenth largest road network globally according to the South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL), and by far the largest on the continent - it's no wonder road tripping has become such a popular way for generations of South Africans to vacation. Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa believes that the four pioneers of the original American road trip would whole-heartedly approve of the following tips for modern motorists wanting to get the most out of their own family road trips today. Family-Road-Trip-Survival-Guide-for-the-Summer-Holidays-honingklip Burroughs As a naturalist and nature essayist, active in the US conservation movement, John Burroughs would advise you to use the unique opportunity of a road trip to discover and explore places of natural beauty, as a chance to learn more about the geological and cultural history of places you haven't been before. Whilst planning your route, look up the tourist attractions you'll be passing along the way and incorporate the most appealing ones into your itinerary. Many of the newly constructed hotels of yesteryear are still in business as historic B&B tourism destinations today, and breaking up long trips into smaller chunks - with one or two overnight stays en route to your destination, interspersed with some sightseeing - not only reduces driving fatigue and back seat boredom, but makes for a much more enjoyable and memorable holiday. The Automobile Association of South Africa (AA) recommends reserving overnight accommodation in advance, especially during peak travel periods like Easter. CMH-Kempster-Ford-Randburg- Family Road Trip - Summer-Holidays Firestone As the founder of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, one of the first global makers of automobile tyres, Harvey Firestone would advise you to have your car's wheel balancing and alignment checked before heading off, to ensure a smooth and safe trip, and not to forget to check the condition of your spare tyre too. Punctures happen to the best of us, at the worst of times. Just remember, spare tyres aren't designed for long distances or high speeds, so once you have replaced a punctured tyre with the spare, you need to visit a tyre technician to fix or replace the original tyre as soon as possible. You should only do a final tyre pressure check once your car is fully loaded, and when the tyres are still cool. The optimal tyre pressures, which you'll find printed on a sticker inside your driver's door, will help improve vehicle safety and maintain fuel efficiency. Road-Trip-Survival-Guide - sync-3-navigation Edison A world renowned inventor whose name is synonymous with the electric light bulb, Thomas Edison was also the self-appointed navigator on the Vagabonds' adventures, with nothing but a compass and a handful of atlases to guide the motorcade! His advice to the modern day road tripper would be to familiarise yourself with all the marvellous tech features of your car, and take full advantage of navigation apps like Google Maps and Waze, accessed either on your smartphone or your car's built-in infotainment system, like Ford's cutting edge SYNC 3 *. For parents travelling with small kids, a visual display showing estimated travel and arrival time could even be the silver bullet you've been searching for to silence the age-old "Are we there yet?" chorus from the back seat. CMH-Kempster-Ford-Randburg- Botswana Summer Holidays Ford And last but certainly not least, captain of industry, business magnate, and founder of the Ford Motor Company himself, Henry Ford would advise you to make sure your car is in tip-top shape before hitting the open road. Be sure to take it in for a thorough inspection at your local dealership, where they will check all the necessary parts for damage and replace them if necessary, so your car can perform at maximum efficiency. Also visit the AA's website for a list of Toll Fees and Toll Plaza Locations, as well as a current Road Conditions Report, which gives you a heads up on any road works that may be taking place, which could result in detours or delays to your journey. At CMH Kempster Ford Randburg we care about your safety and that of your family. Take care on your travels this festive season and stay safe. Take your time and enjoy the adventure. From our Family at CMH Kempster Ford Randburg to Yours we wish you a safe and enjoyable holiday. Adopt a School Initiative: The Road so Far

November 8, 2023 By Rokkit

Adopt a School Initiative: It began with The Community Food Gardens at Emthonjeni as our chosen way of giving back to the community. CMH Kempster Ford Randburg sponsored the upgraded fencing around the Vegetable Gardens for a safe and secure future for this entrepreneurial endeavour for the community.

The objective of these gardens is to improve the nutritional status of vulnerable people, supply vegetables to 3 nutritional kitchens, provide food for self-consumption and generate income for these individuals. At Emthonjeni we have set aside land for sustainable vegetable gardens. Senior citizens from Zandspruit Informal Settlement are given the necessary training, seeds and tools to successfully plant their gardens. We consider this vegetable garden to be an extremely beneficial initiative as it addresses the very real and practical nutritional needs of the aged.

In August 2019 we started the Adopt a School: Clothing and Blanket Drive

Adopt a School Initiative: Donate Used Clothing, Blankets, Appliances, etc. and let’s help make a difference.

Items Needed: • Clothing • Shoes • Appliances (heaters, toasters, kettles, etc.) • Kitchen (cookware, crockery, glassware etc.) • DIY (cement, bricks, steel, etc.) • Home décor (mirrors, curtains, rugs, linen, etc.) • Toys • Sports equipment • Stationery • Toiletries • Furniture

In September 2019 we started the Adopt a School: Non Perishable Food Drive

Donate Non-Perishable Food Items and Cleaning Supplies to a good cause this Spring.

Items Needed:

• Canned Goods • Dry Goods • Long Life Goods • Cleaning Supplies

These two Drives or Acts of Kindness are not to make ourselves look good or to be the hero’s in anyone’s story. These have been started and put in place to get the community involved, to help the wonderful people who run this amazing centre where we can. These two drives will be continuous and on-going initiatives at CMH Kempster Ford Randburg for the remainder of this year and well on into next year. We are committed to helping as much as possible and we are always appreciative of the help and support, you our loyal customers give us.

Steyn’s Heritage Day Celebration

November 8, 2023 By Rokkit

CMH Kempster Ford Pretoria is proud to have a diverse family in all departments and employment levels. In respect of our National holiday, Steyn’s Heritage Day we celebrated our dealership as well as our nation’s diversity. We dressed up to pay tribute to our complemented differences in language, colour and purpose. Like our vehicle range we have young and old, different colours and unique in our own way. Like mechanical work, we fit in to make our fabulous family!

CMH Kempster Ford Pretoria also has a history - Once commonly known as Steyn’s Auto. Due to our unconventional family we do things to accommodate the diversity. Just last week we went on to collaborate with comedy artists to promote our brand and create awareness to bridge the gap in the demographical fallacy as well as the misconception of our South African manufactured, American vehicles being too pricey to afford.

As much as we have brand new and demo model Ford vehicles for sale, we like to allow our loyal customers the opportunity view or purchase a variety of vehicles from our pre-loved Pre-Owned section. At CMH Kempster Ford Pretoria we ensure that we have something for everyone, just like our multilingual family who are always there to assist customers in their preferred language just to make you feel welcome and at home.

Ford Raptor

November 8, 2023 By Rokkit

Drive the Power

If you are a 4x4 enthusiast no one will know the excitement you feel when hearing the words ‘Ford Raptor”. At CMH Ford Hatfield, we feel exactly the same way – The most anticipated arrival of this BEAST was a little over two months ago. The interesting thing about its arrival was that our customers kind of knew it was arriving but did not really know when. That doesn’t seem to make sense right? But basically because of the model’s scarcity and the limited amount that was produced, you really had to be a fan to know more about its arrival.

Fortunately because we at CMH Ford Hatfield are able to house these, even if it is for a short period of time, we definitely knew when they were arriving and we couldn’t wait to take a drive in one. The first exterior impression is it’s BIG, and has a presence like no other bakkie out there. Once we got into the vehicle we were even more excited to know that it pulls away smoothly, absorbs the bumps, accelerates amazingly but slows down with ease.

The Ford Raptor is definitely not a robot to robot kind of vehicle. It’s the kind that you want to take on a much longer drive. Not only to enjoy the comfortability but to feel the power too. One of the most appreciated things about the Ford Raptor is its suspension – definitely out of this world. Someone may ask, how is the fuel consumption? And we realised true Ford Raptor fans do not really care lol.

Ford Raptor - interior - driver seat

There is a lot we can say about the popular Ford Raptor but that means you won’t visit us anytime soon at CMH Ford Hatfield. So, make a turn to find out more about the vehicle and if you lucky to find one on our showroom floor, you are guaranteed a test drive.

The new 2019 Ford Everest 4×4 day at CMH Kempster Ford Pretoria North

November 8, 2023 By Rokkit

The New Ford Everest 4x4,the adventurous 7-seater SUV just got even more advanced with the new 2.0L Single Turbo and Bi-turbo diesel engines, operated by the innovative 10-speed automatic transmission, taking power, technology, safety, and fuel efficiency to the next level! It is incredibly dynamic in the city and absolutely phenomenal on rugged off-road terrains, making the Ford Everest the ideal all-round vehicle for you and your young at heart family, who love exploring and going on fun road trips.

We invited a group of our loyal clients to meet our all-new Ford Everest at its ideal territory, a 4x4 track! The day was filled with adventure, excitement and satisfied clients. We kicked the day off with a delightful breakfast at the Gas Monkey Pub and Grill in Pretoria and after that our clients brought their hunger for adventure, desire for adrenaline, passion for life and their love for Ford to the LA Sport 4x4 track, and boy did we have fun!

Two professional 4x4 instructors from Bosvark showed everybody how to safely go through all the obstacles and then gave them the chance to experience the definition of tough themselves with the new Ford Everest. Some of the obstacles looked so easy when watching as a bystander, but when you are the one behind the wheel it’s a whole different feeling. It feels somewhat terrifying, especially if it’s your first-time off-roading but as soon as the instructor tells you in what mode to put the vehicle and what buttons to press the Ford Everest goes through it with ease and makes you look like a pro!

You might think a smaller engine will reduce the power, but thanks to improved technology and clever engineering it delivers more power and torque, better fuel economy and greener in the ecological sense. With a state-of-the-art transmission, it has a greater spread of ratios to carefully select the most efficient gear at exactly the right moment.

The new Everest has four terrain modes to comfortably provide optimal performance, capability, traction and help you rise to new heights.

Features and technology, you can find in selected models:

• SYNC®3 with navigation • Lane Departure Warning • Semi-Automatic Parallel Park • Smart keyless entry and Push Button Start • Power 8-way adjustable driver seat and heated front seats • Dual-zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control • Front and Rear parking sensors • Rear-view camera • Auto-levelling and Auto-High Beam Control • Power Rear Liftgate • A powered panoramic glass sunroof • Blind Spot Monitoring with cross-traffic alert • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System • Torque on-demand feature • Adaptive Cruise Control

It was remarkable to observe our client's reactions, to hear and see their joyous excitement and love for the brand. Ford mastered the perfect combination of power, comfort, speed and fuel consumption.

Explore life and instantly fall in love with driving again in the new #EverConquering #EverPowerful #EverCapable #EverComfortable and #EverSafe Ford Everest. Get in touch with our sales team on 0877248757 to book your test drive and get ready to be amazed!

CMH Kempster Ford Cares about Your Little Ones

November 8, 2023 By Rokkit

CMH Kempster Ford Cares - correctly installed

Ford Cares about Your Little Ones. Strap Your Little Ones In! Car Seats Should Be a Must, Not a Maybe

Your child is by far the most precious cargo your vehicle will ever have to carry. We love our children and would never want anything to happen to them, yet here in South Africa, we still boast relatively low awareness towards car seat safety. It's critical to have your child - of any age, from infant to adolescent - properly restrained on every trip.

Why this is crucial

Road accidents are the second leading cause of death in children aged 5 to 14 in South Africa. According to the Automobile Association of South Africa, it is the law that any child under the age of three is in a properly secured car seat. A car seat can help reduce the likelihood of a fatal crash. Studies have shown that children who aren't properly restrained, and who are involved in crashes - even at slower speeds - have more chance of being seriously injured or, worse, killed, than those who are.

Most Ford vehicles feature standard Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH), compatible with many car seats, but parents should always double-check that their car seat can be properly attached to the vehicle's lower and top tether anchors. It's important to take into account all the other vehicles this car seat may likely be used in as well.

Where, when and why

Rear-facing car seats are the safest way for infants and young children to travel in. Ford recommends that you keep your child in one until they have exceeded the highest weight or height allowed by your car seat manufacturer before transitioning to a forward-facing seat. There are also many convertible seats out in the market now, which can be used as a rear-facing and later, as a forward-facing car seat.

Take care to ensure the car seat is reclined at a correct angle so your child's head isn't flopping forward. Babies, in particular, need to be placed semi-reclined so that their airways are kept open. Bear in mind that you may need to readjust the seat as your child grows. Once your child outgrows their car seat, it's important to introduce a booster seat as, at that point, most children might still not be tall enough or weigh enough for an adult seat belt to fit snugly around them. Children must be about 1.5 meters - with the lap belt low on their hips and pelvis and the shoulder bet resting comfortably on the middle of their chest and shoulder - before a seat belt is appropriate.

Ford South Africa

Because Ford Cares about Your Little Ones we suggest strapping your child into a car seat is vital for their safety. Ford supports @carseatfullstop, a local car seat initiative that promotes the correct use of car seats. Here are some tips to make sure your child is as safe as they can be: http://bit.ly/FordCSFS #FordCares

Drive the car you want with Ford Options

November 8, 2023 By Rokkit

Choose Ford Options

Ford options makes it easy for you to afford the car you want, all because of the flexible financing that puts you in the driver’s seat.

The first thing is for you the customer to choose the vehicle you want . Much like its purchase price each ford model has its own guaranteed future value. This is the value Ford guarantees your car will be worth at the end of your finance term.

The second thing to do is to choose your deposit and finance term. Your finance term can either be 24, 36 or 48 months.

Lastly, as the customer you will then estimate your annual mileage and choose between 20km, 30km or 40km. When you’ve reached your estimated mileage at the end of your finance term you can keep your options open and decide to either return your current vehicle to your nearest ford dealer. The second option is to retain your vehicle by settling the guaranteed future value or last option renew your vehicle by choosing a newer Ford model.

With ford options your monthly repayment is purely based on the value of your vehicle, how long you want to finance your vehicle for and your estimated annual mileage.

When you purchase a vehicle through ford options you truly have the power to determine what you want to do with your vehicle and how to save.

We at CMH Ford Hatfield have qualified Finance and insurance Managers who can easily explain the the process of purchasing your vehicle through Ford Options.

Adopt a School Initiative

November 8, 2023 By Rokkit

The CMH Kempster Ford Randburg Team had a great day out at Emthonjeni Community Centre and is proud to be affiliated with the Adopt a School Initiative.

About Emthonjeni Community Centre:

Emthonjeni has its roots deep within the community it serves believing that all people, no matter what age, race, gender, social and economic position or abilities, have opportunities to contribute to society and promote social upliftment. Care-based, relationship orientated services at Emthonjeni include:
  • Education
  • Sport & Recreation
  • Community Care

Education:

Early Childhood Development

Impact Africa

South Africa has over 5 million children up to the age of four, and another 6 million between the ages of five and nine. These children are South Africa’s future. They are going to head up homes, communities and businesses in the years ahead. Educational research has shown that a child’s brain is already developed 80% by the age of four and that they learn their most crucial life lessons and values in the early years of their lives. Impact kids ensures that two hundred (200) children of Kwaggafontein and Kromdraai are receiving the best possible pre-school education to equip them to lead fulfilling lives and that pre-school teaching standards are being maintained across the board.

Golang Education

Over the years we have realized that the greatest impact on a child’s life happens before he/she turns 7 years of age and that if we want to holistically nurture and develop children into the best person, we have to start working at a very young age. This is how the need for a top-quality pre-school, within walking distance, in Zandspruit, was identified. Our Pre-School Programme has been running for nine years and we have 60 pre-schoolers, being taught by three qualified teachers in three groups.

Community Care:

Emthonjeni strongly believes in holistically caring for the communities we so deeply love; by enlisting the help of the greater community, we offer them the opportunity to be a part of something that is for the greater good of all.

Community Care Initiatives include:

  • Caring for the well-being of our senior citizens
  • Reaching out to vulnerable children
  • Blanket and Food Drives
  • Mandela Day Celebrations
  • Disaster or Care Fund (Shack Fires/Flooding)
  • Corporate Outreach Programs

About the Community Food Gardens / Vegetable Gardens:

The Community Food Gardens at Emthonjeni is our chosen way of giving back to the community. CMH Kempster Ford Randburg plans to continue our support of this amazing centre and all it is doing for the community starting with Blanket and Food Drives.
