The day started off as an exciting one for the ladies at Birdsong old age home in Durban North, the ladies where invited to a concert by a nearby primary school. We at CMH Kempster Ford Umhlanga had offered to sponsor the ladies with transport to and from the school.
As early as 8:00 am we were there and ready, waiting patiently for the ladies to get ready and transport them to the event. What a buzz it was, you could see the excitement in their eyes. Our Dealer Principal, Mr Clive Wainright was the driver for the day, driving the Ford Transit Bus which is a 7 seater, fitting all the ladies comfortably. During the trip the ladies were chatting away, and enjoying every moment, asking questions and sharing stories about the cars they have once owned.
We eventually got to our destination, where the ladies were treated with joy and laughter, as they watched the concert which was acted out by the grade 1 and grade 3 children, we also got a glimpse of the concert, with our Dealer Principal Clive sitting right in front. We then transported the ladies safely back to their retirement home.

Dezzi Raceway is set in the rolling hills of the South coast and just 10 minutes’ drive from Port Shepstone, the 2.5 Km track is a superb mix of tight, technical corners, blind rises and elevation changes-a challenging proposition for cars, and especially bikes with quick directional changes a must for setting a good lap time.

It was no different for a Keynes Mdaka a young man fresh from university armed with a financial degree he embarked on a career as a Pension Fund Manager at one of the top financial institutions in the country based in Sandton.
Meet Keynes New Car Sales Manager at Cmh Kempster Ford in Randburg. He is a family man that enjoys adventure sports such as bunjee jumping and just about any water sport that involves adrenalin and speed.
Keynes began his career in 2001 but only joined the motor industry in 2007. He happened to go into a dealership across from his workplace in search of a new vehicle when he had a light bulb moment. The sales consultant helping him at the time was friendly and seem to be enjoying her job so much he decided at that moment that is what he wanted to do. Fast forward to a few months down the line, he resigned from his job in the financial sector and became a salesman selling cars.
In 2014 Keynes joined the CMH Kempster Ford Randburg family as a new vehicles salesman. He won several accolades such as Salesman of the month. In July of 2017 the position of Sales Manager for new cars department opened up and he stepped up for the role. He says mentorship from the previous manager played a vital role in his personal developments which lead him to become Sales Manager. He aspires to mentor other future managers. He also fully intends to work toward becoming Dealer Principle and eventually move to the CMH head office.

Clients were given the opportunity to test drive the Black and Yellow 5.0 L Level 3 Roush Performance Mustangs and were queuing and waiting in anticipation for their turn. While waiting they enjoyed boerewors rolls and cold drinks. Children were enjoying the jumping castle and Performance face stamps. The Stig was around and boy did the kids enjoy the excitement of having a Famous Race Car driver there ;-).
We had a few antique Ford’s on display from the 1917 and 1971 such as the Model T Ford, Model A Ford, Ford Hotrod and Ford Thunderbird.
The lucky draw took place at 12:30 and our winner was Mr Brink. He was overwhelmed with excitement when receiving his Ford Tog bag with loads of goodies inside.

Amber Schlebusch starts a typical day at 03h50. Certainly not your average teenager’s idea of an early morning,
but for SA’s newest age-group triathlon champion, it is part and parcel of the demands of her sport.
At just 15, Amber – a Grade 10 pupil at Durban Girls College – has grown used to her punishing schedule.
Before school she squeezes in a 30km bike ride and a 5km run along the Golden Mile. By the afternoon she might have added a 3km swim to her training, or a session in the gym, all the while finding the time – somehow – to remain on top of her schoolwork. Arduous, indeed, but the results of her hard work are there to see.
The past weekend saw her crowned the country’s U17 women’s triathlon champion when she dominated the field with a powerful run-leg at Aldam Estate in the Free State, to the extent that she finished 2nd overall in the U19 category.
It capped a sensational few months for Amber, who prior to the national champs won a number of prestigious events around the country, including the Midlands Ultra Sprint, KZN Triathlon Champs & Discovery Triathlon School Challenge. Her victories have seen her profile in the sport grow, and she attributes this to her coach Justin Hand of Team Justin / Durban Runner, who took her under his wing last year, giving her the guidance she needed to realize what was, until then, budding potential. The pair have their eyes on next year’s Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires and Amber stands an excellent chance of competing after selection to the talent identification programme run by Triathlon South Africa, currently taking place in Johannesburg.
Some of that potential saw her garner second place in the World Biathlete Championships in Sarasota, Florida last year, her first competition as a national champion outside of the country.
Amber holds numerous triathlon and biathlete provincial titles.
Swimming and running were identified early on by her parents as sports she could excel in. On the track, she broke records year after year at Glenwood Prep, accomplishments she has carried into high school. She has run and swum for KZN, and it was these beginnings that ultimately led her down the triathlon path.
She remains humble to those who have helped her along the way. With a large support network of family and friends, coaches, teammates and sponsors, Amber has been allowed to flourish at her own pace, and has no hesitation meeting up with friends away from her sport.
She loves her cellphone like any self-respecting child – which is what you would expect from an average teenager.
