We at CMH Kempster Ford Pretoria had an awesome January with a lot of sales done by The New vehicle department and Second-hand vehicle department. We sold a total of 95 vehicles in January with new vehicles selling 53 vehicles and the Used department selling 42 in total. We also had two displays set up one at Quagga Mall in Pretoria west and one at Wonderpark Mall. These two displays offered a great experience for our team and client with us offering some insight into the performance and technology of the Ford Mustang and RS. We also thought it would be a great match to show off the New 2.2 Everest paired with the Ford Ranger 2.2 Xl Auto double cab. All four of these vehicles received a lot of attention and kept our sales executives on their feet. We will be back at Quagga Mall in the 6^th of February and the 13th we will be back in Wonderpark mall. We are looking forward to be seeing all of our loyal and supporting customers again.

What made you decide to become a workshop manager? I’ve always had a keen interest in cars, because my brother had been in the trade and so I started working in the  motor industry right after school. It was Annemarie at Hatfield, where I previously worked, who suggested it to me... I asked her if there was anything else that I could still learn, because by that time I’ve already worked as a booking clerk, service advisor, warranty clerk, and in the parts department, so she enrolled me in the internal CMH cadet training to become a workshop manager. What do you enjoy the most about your job? I’m a people’s person, I love building relationships and bonding with people. I always put my clients first and they truly are very important to me. To recognise my clients, to bond with them, seeing them come back for their next service and staying loyal to our dealership, it really gives me that heart-warming feeling. What is your mission and vision for our workshop here at CMH Ford Pretoria North? My goal is to become a prime dealer. I really want this workshop to become the best and I want the staff members to be passionate, proud and ambitious about their work, and for us to really strive towards excellence. Have you ever felt like you should just give up, or has anyone pressured you to try something else other than working in a traditionally male-dominated industry? No, nobody ever told me to do something else. Everyone sometimes hesitates in life, but luckily I have my team and top technicians to assist me, each one of us has a role and a gap to fill and together we are one solid team. I also have my family who keeps on supporting me and most of them are in the motor industry so there is no chance of giving up! How does it feel to be among only a handful of women in the industry? It’s definitely a “WOW!” feeling. I think it’s fantastic that the head office of CMH actually promotes it. I believe we live in a world where times are changing and anyone can follow their dreams, it doesn’t matter who you are. I also worked for a female workshop manager, Jeanette, and I believe she is one of the best! Have there been any times when you have been questioned or ignored in your job just because you are a woman? Yes, I’ve experienced it before, but I won’t get offended in that kind of situations. I want my clients to be comfortable, happy, and for them to trust us, that is what service is all about at the end of the day. What words of advice can you give to women-up-and-comers in the industry? The women in the motor industry need to be “tough cookies”. If you look around in the dealerships you will notice that it is becoming more and more common to see woman working in this industry nowadays simply, because we can! Don’t ever give up, believe in yourself and don’t let anyone ever make you feel that you are not good enough.

With all the reports we have been receiving regarding the Ford Kuga catching fire,  all Ford Kuga owners were encouraged to bring back their vehicles to a Ford Dealership. It is with great pleasure to announce that the recall was a success we received more than 40 vehicles to be checked, most of them were given the clear and given back to their owners as they were certified safe to drive, each owner was given back not only the vehicle but a petrol slip and a clarity letter confirming the vehicle is roadworthy. Clients were given the opportunity to test drive the Black and Yellow 5.0 L Level 3 Roush Performance Mustangs and were queuing and waiting in anticipation for their turn. While waiting they enjoyed boerewors rolls and cold drinks. Children were enjoying the jumping castle and Performance face stamps. The Stig was around and boy did the kids enjoy the excitement of having a Famous Race Car driver there ;-). We had a few antique Ford’s on display from the 1917 and 1971 such as the Model T Ford, Model A Ford, Ford Hotrod and Ford Thunderbird. The lucky draw took place at 12:30 and our winner was Mr Brink. He was overwhelmed with excitement when receiving his Ford Tog bag with loads of goodies inside. What an amazing and great event and day we had, we would like to thank Roush Performance who made the day possible, our loyal customers as well as Cars in the Park with their amazing display of antique Ford’s.

Over the course of 3 Months at CMH Kempster Ford Umhlanga, we have been asking our customers to complete an online survey and rate the service in our customer service department after they have had their vehicle serviced at our workshop. At the beginning of February our competition came to an end and we had a draw, our winner was randomly selected among over 1000 entries. Amber Schlebusch starts a typical day at 03h50. Certainly not your average teenager’s idea of an early morning, but for SA’s newest age-group triathlon champion, it is part and parcel of the demands of her sport. At just 15, Amber – a Grade 10 pupil at Durban Girls College – has grown used to her punishing schedule. Before school she squeezes in a 30km bike ride and a 5km run along the Golden Mile. By the afternoon she might have added a 3km swim to her training, or a session in the gym, all the while finding the time – somehow – to remain on top of her schoolwork. Arduous, indeed, but the results of her hard work are there to see. The past weekend saw her crowned the country’s U17 women’s triathlon champion when she dominated the field with a powerful run-leg at Aldam Estate in the Free State, to the extent that she finished 2nd overall in the U19 category. It capped a sensational few months for Amber, who prior to the national champs won a number of prestigious events around the country, including the Midlands Ultra Sprint, KZN Triathlon Champs & Discovery Triathlon School Challenge. Her victories have seen her profile in the sport grow, and she attributes this to her coach Justin Hand of Team Justin / Durban Runner, who took her under his wing last year, giving her the guidance she needed to realize what was, until then, budding potential. With a large support network of family and friends, coaches, teammates and sponsors, Amber has been allowed to flourish at her own pace, and has no hesitation meeting up with friends away from her sport. A great Christmas surprise Christmas has come early for a customer Mariana Dereksen from her husband Lee Dereksen. The planning took place two months prior to Christmas. We all had to keep the great secret, Mr Lee Dereksen told us his wife works very hard and is under a lot of pressure at work, and deserves to be spoilt with a new car. Lee bought her the top of the range of the Focus. Lee had a personalised plate made, U C NOW KZN because that is a saying that she always says. We had to get flowers, chocolates, and rose petals to put around the vehicle in a heart shape. When the day arrived for her to fetch the vehicle, he had to tell her that he is going to fit a tow bar on her vehicle for them to go to Johannesburg. This was so cute when they had to pick up the new vehicle, told her to change her clothes, she asked why? Lee said he had to think quickly then said it is so hot outside, put something cooler on. He wants her to come with and see if she likes the tow bar. When they drove in her vehicle was in the front of the workshop, her first words were they didn’t even wash my vehicle, Lee then said to Mariana let us go in and ask why. As Mariana walked in the door she spotted the number plate and burst into tears, she couldn’t stop thanking Lee and the staff involved for such a lovely surprise. Her astonishment made the staff cry. Hugs were flying because they have become such good friends at our dealership. We have all gone through both her pregnancies and see how the boys are growing up so fast. The Aryan Benevolent Home for the elderly in Chatsworth was recently broken into where robbers escaped with a vehicle belonging to the home, groceries, and an undisclosed amount of money that caters to children, the elderly, as well as the physically and mentally disabled. As Kempster Ford Umhlanga we decided to give a little bit back to the community, by offering assistance and showing support by donating food parcels to the home. Upon arrival the Staff of ABH was already waiting for us to receive the donation. One of the residents that the home feeds was also there to witness and accept the delivery from The Kempster Ford Team We would like to thank everyone else who donated to the home, but mostly we would like to thank the Kempster Ford Umhlanga Team for giving a helping hand.

You may have read or heard on the news that Ford has had serious problems with the Ford Kuga 1.6. Over the past few weeks several Ford Kuga vehicles equipped with the 1.6l EcoBoost engine have caught alight. Ford’s investigation into a number of its Kuga vehicles bursting into flames on South Africa’s roads, it is not yet complete, but it believes that the fires may have been a result of engines overheating. We at Kempster Ford Umhlanga decided to do a call in Campaign and inspected over 25 vehicles, during the inspection we found a few to be faulty without wasting any time we then advised the owners of the vehicles of what needs to be attended to immediately. If you have purchased your Ford Kuga 1.6I Ecoboost from our CMH Kempster Ford Umhlanga dealership, and have not brought it in for inspection, please urgently contact us to book your vehicle in for a one-hour maintenance check, free of charge.
