Ford has come up with, yet another exciting innovation called FordPass and CMH Steyns Ford takes you on a journey about this top tier resolution.

All our Ford Ranger customers in South Africa now have access to an enhanced ownership experience with the introduction of FordPass Connect on all new XL, XLS, XLT, Wildtrak and Ranger Raptor models from February 2021 production – as well as the newly launched Ranger FX4.

FordPass Connect makes life simpler and easier and, as Ford South Africa’s best-selling vehicle – which is locally produced at the Silverton Assembly Plant here in Pretoria (Talk about Home ground advantage) – it is the first to offer this innovative technology as standard. All Rangers equipped with FordPass Connect are fitted with an embedded modem at no additional cost that pairs with the FordPass smartphone app to unlock a range of new connected services.

FordPass: connectivity at your fingertips With the FordPass App, owners can check their vehicle’s key variables including fuel level and oil status, tyre pressures and mileage through the convenience of their smartphone.

Vehicle Status and Remote Vehicle Monitoring: Through the FordPass app’s Vehicle Status feature, owners can check their vehicle’s key variables including fuel level and oil status, tyre pressures (where the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System is fitted on the Wildtrak) and mileage through the convenience of their smartphone.

Remote Start and Stop (automatic models only) : Using the FordPass app, drivers can start their vehicle’s engine from home, the office or elsewhere via smartphone, enabling the vehicle’s cabin to commence heating or cooling to the last used setting. This helps ensure a cool, comfortable interior on a hot summer day, or a de-iced, warmed and inviting vehicle in winter. The vehicle is automatically locked with remote starting. It can only be driven once the driver inserts the ignition key or presses the ‘Start’ button with the proximity key in the vehicle. A scheduled start can also be programmed for a predetermined time via the FordPass app and can be configured to repeat on selected days throughout the week.

Remote Lock and Unlock: Drivers can lock and unlock their Ford remotely, meaning they do not have to rush back to their cars to check if they have remembered to lock their doors. This also allows drivers to let passengers into their vehicle regardless of whether they are there or not.

Vehicle Locator: Courtesy of a map and location tracker in the FordPass app, drivers can find their way back to their vehicle in a busy parking area without the need to remember exactly where they parked it. This is even more convenient where you share your vehicle with one or more members of your household.

Vehicle Health Alerts: The FordPass app capability extends to Vehicle Health Alerts, which can be sent directly to a smart device pre-empting service needs, general maintenance such as a low washer fluid alert, and more. The alert is designed to identify specific issues and even recommend a course of action.

Map and Search: Through the FordPass app, customers have access to an extensive range of search options, including Ford dealers, fuel stations, available parking, entertainment, coffee shops and travel destinations such as hotels and lodges.

Maintenance Schedule: All key vehicle information is available in the FordPass app, including the vehicle identification number (VIN), new vehicle warranty (including the start date for the four-year/120 000km comprehensive warranty), The owner can also check the upcoming service intervals, and schedule service at their preferred dealer with the app linking to the www.myfordjourney.co.za website the facilitate this process.

Roadside Assistance: Throughout the FordPass app, customers have instant access to call Ford’s 24-hour emergency Roadside Assistance, which is valid for three years/unlimited distance, and is provided by the Automobile Association (AA).

Vehicle Support: The app provides extensive additional resources for customers, including how-to videos explaining features and technologies in the Ranger, digital Owner’s Manual, and an Alerts Guide addressing many issues such as water in fuel, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) warning, and numerous other warning messages.

FordPass Guide: When you need help, a friendly FordPass Guide is there to offer one-on-one assistance via phone or e-mail, directly from the app.

A Warm welcome to Donovan Naidoo, our new Parts Manager. Donovan started his career at an aftermarket outlet in 1997. After 6 years of loyal service, he decided to join Ford in 2003 as a Parts Salesman. As the world’s best-selling sports car, the iconic Ford Mustang range in South Africa will soon be bolstered by a very special and exclusive model – the Mach 1 Fastback coupé, which is the pinnacle of Mustang 5.0-litre V8 style and performance. The unrivalled exclusivity of the Mustang Mach 1 will be guaranteed, as only 90 units are available for the South African market.

Accordingly, the limited-edition Mustang Mach 1 becomes the most track-capable 5.0-litre Mustang yet, courtesy of a newly designed front end, plus Ford Performance parts derived from the Mustang Shelby GT350 and Shelby GT500 models.

The performance of the specially calibrated 5.0-litre V8 engine matches that of the revered Mustang Bullitt, producing 338kW of power and 529Nm of torque. Mach 1 buyers that desire the most engaging driving experience can select the high-performance six-speed manual transmission derived from the Shelby GT350, or there’s the option of Ford’s high-tech 10-speed automatic. Both transmissions receive numerous performances, cooling and calibration enhancements that are specific to the Mach 1.

Visually, the Mach 1 is easily identifiable as a truly special, track-focused machine – most notably by the bold Mach 1 grille that pays tribute to the original, along with extensive use of low-gloss Magnetic dark grey and black accents.

New 19-inch five-spoke Tarnished Dark-painted aluminium wheels are a modern interpretation of the classic Mach 1 Magnum 500 style wheels, fitted with 255/40R19 tyres in front and 275/40R19 versions at the rear, giving the Mach 1 a sportier, more aggressive demeanour and enhanced handling prowess.

To further improve ride and handling, the Mach 1 features the latest MagneRide adaptive suspension, new performance-oriented electric power steering calibration, stiffer sway bars and front springs, an upgraded brake booster, a rear subframe with stiffer bushings and a rear toe-link from the Shelby GT500. And, as expected of a track-focused Mustang, the available Drive Modes includes a Track mode and Track Apps with Launch Control.

All units destined for South Africa are painted in distinctive metallic Fighter Jet Grey with the Appearance Package as standard, which will make the Mach 1 instantly recognisable. Wow who would have thought that this year, we at CMH Ford Hatfield would be celebrating our 25th birthday. We are hosting a special day on the 12th of June, promoting 25 awesome vehicles at special prices. We hope to bring in a lot of new customers to the dealership, walking in as strangers and walking out as friends. We are driven to make sales but also give excellent service.

We recently had the opportunity to invite our clients once again to a 4×4 off-road training day held at Killarney 4x4 Trail. Our clients get to enjoy the day out with us and learn more about their 4×4 vehicles. The practical knowledge and exposure to suitable terrain and to learn more always proves to be a huge hit with our clients.

The day started with a drive through Shongweni Valley, the views and sounds of the mountains were incredible. We all met at the Killarney Trail at 08:00 am our instructor, Travis, started by introducing our customers to a basic 4×4 track day, he showed us the basics of 4×4 driving and the controls on how to recover the vehicle safely, should they get stuck. We then went up and down some steep hills and over a few challenging obstacles.

More 4×4 Challenges

The second part of the course involved the ’Slippery’ hill with the wet terrain it sure proved to be a test for our learning clients, which they all passed with flying colours. Our day progressed to the challenge on the two railings, where you must very carefully line up your wheels perfectly on the two rails and drive from one side to the other without sliding off. This proved very difficult, but all the customers managed to achieve this obstacle with absolute confidence.

After the exhilarating experience on the tracks, everybody came back on-site and had pre-packed picnic baskets as no braais / large gatherings are permissible due to COVID-19. Our clients had the pleasure of using the trail for the entire day and some clients were more than eager to go back out alone in the mountains. The aim of the day? For our clients to learn as much as they can about their vehicles and leaving the day with pride and confidence in their 4X4. We would highly recommend this to all that have 4×4 vehicles, this was such an adventurous and fun-filled day out with our family and loyal customers.
