It is here. The distinctive, All-New Ford Fiesta and I was privileged enough to take the 1.0 EcoBoost Trend A/T for a ride! Yes, it is the International Engine of the year (under 1.0 litre) for the 6th year in a row. And with good reason! It pulls surprisingly good and really has a lot of power for such a small engine whilst remaining Fairley economical. If you haven’t experienced the famous engine yourself, I would highly recommend you arrange a test drive with one of the 1.0 EcoBoost Ford models and prepare yourself to be blown away!
The top speed on the new Fiesta models vary between 175 km/h (Fiesta 1.5TDCi Trend) and an incredible 195 km/h (Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost Titanium). But wait, the fuel economy is even more impressive! With the 1.5TDCi being labelled “Most fuel-efficient car in South Africa” consuming only 3.3L/100 km, the 1.0 EcoBoost manual models consuming 4.3L/100 km and the 1.0 EcoBoost Auto models consuming an average of 5.2L/100 km which is great for an automatic transmission. Fuel efficiency is further enhanced with Auto Start-Stop technology on all models and a new Eco button for the manual transmissions.
Feel the power, not the shift… The Powershift delivers the perfect combination between automatic convenience and manual efficiency, selecting the appropriate gear at exactly the right moment, making the ride superbly smooth. The Fiesta is one of the most fun-to-drive vehicles giving you that nifty, sporty, small-car feel with big-car sophistication adding up to the perfect all-round vehicle. The Fiesta offers class-leading driving dynamics with excellent handling, grip and suspension, driving effortless and smooth even on our uneven roads.
Don’t just show up… stand out! The All-New Fiesta is more eye-catching and hard to resist than ever before with its vibrant and unique colours such as blue wave and ruby red. Stylish, elegant, modern, sexy, sleek and feisty is what the Fiesta represents from the inside out! They managed to take sophistication in a hatchback to another level with a complete new interior look and modern, smart features.
The Fiesta comes with advanced safety technologies and has a well-deserved five-star NCAP safety rating, making sure you are protected and safe making life simpler and stress-free. The following features come standard with all models:
- Electric Power Assisted Steering
- Emergency Brake Assist and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution
- Traction Control, Anti-Lock Braking System with Electronic Stability Control
- Hill Launch Assist
- Dual, Front and Curtain Airbags
- Reverse Parking Sensors

The Christmas holiday is around the corner and the roads will be filled with people travelling home or to their holiday destinations. It’s always a good idea to make sure your vehicle is in tip-top shape to ensure your safety and that of others on the road.
Ensure your battery is working. Check that the terminals are clean. If they have a powder on them it means acid is leaking and it needs to be changed. The life of a battery is 3 to 6 years so if you know your battery is older than 4 years it’s wise to change it.
Check your oil regularly. You can stop at any service station and they will do this for you. They will open the hood and pull out the engine dipstick. Wipe it with a clean rag and put it back in fully. Pull it out again and check the level if it is not on full or close to the full mark, you need to add more engine oil. Take care not to overfill the oil as this may cause leaks.
Ask a friend or family member to help you check if your indicators, park lights and brake lights are all working. If you are towing a trailer or caravan, make sure all the electronics are connected and working properly. Most service centres will be having specials on re-gassing aircons during summer, so take advantage of that.
Ensure that the tyre pressure is accurate. It’s usually written somewhere on the interior of the vehicle. Check that you have a spare wheel, and the equipment needed to change it if you get a flat. Another important thing is to know how to change the tyre. What good is having all the material and not being able to use it.
It’s dangerous to be stranded on the side of the road.

3: Always maintain a safe following distance! When the roads are wet they offer less grip, so allow plenty of room between you and the vehicles in front of and behind you to be safe.
4: Stay Informed! Make sure you check traffic websites before you head out that way you will know whether roads are open or closed. Plan your journey to avoid trouble spots and watch the weather forecast.
5: Patience is key! Patience needs to be applied in all aspects when the roads are wet as the journey can take much longer when there are poor weather conditions. It is not worth it to rush.
6: Vision is vital! Always keep your eyes ahead when driving, and make sure to always watch the vehicles around you.
7: Tread softly! Harsh breaking or acceleration can upset the stability of the vehicle. Traction and stability should be active at all times.
8: Keep an eye out for debris! In events of bad weather, storms tend to leave rubbish on the roads. Some of these could be dangerous while driving, so make sure you look for objects such as tree branches and smaller objects which could cause punctures.
9: Avoid puddles! Always stay away from gutters where large amounts of water can gather. Cars and water do not mix! If you do come across deep water, slow down gently and maintain control of the steering wheel, then continue with your journey.
10: These are tips to keep you safe and sound as you head out. In an event you venture into stormy weather, make sure to stay calm. Try to handle the situation as best as possible and keep everyone in the vehicle calm and at ease.
