The all-new Ford Figo, due in South Africa in the fourth quarter of 2015, is destined to be a compact car champion by offering unprecedented levels of style, feature-rich smart technologies and high levels of safety, while retaining the Figo’s established reputation for superb fuel efficiency and overall value.
“The Ford Figo has been a remarkable success story in South Africa since it was launched in 2010,” says Tracey Delate, General Marketing Manager at Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA).
“From the outset the Figo’s strong price point, smart features and the option of fuel-efficient petrol and diesel engines made it one of the top contenders in the Sub-B segment. Last year the Figo held an average of 15-percent share of this segment.
“The all-new Figo builds on that legacy by combining sophisticated contemporary styling, a whole new range of Ford’s trend-setting technologies such as Ford’s SYNC® integrated multimedia and connectivity system, as well as a modern and welcoming cabin that offers more space and improved safety,” Delate states. “The Figo will once again be extremely competitive in terms of overall value.”
For the first time, the Figo will be available in two body styles, including the familiar five-door hatchback as well as a new four-door sedan.
Although the full line-up will be confirmed closer to launch, the range will be broader compared to the current Figo due to the addition of more derivatives and specification levels (and the option of the hatch and sedan body styles).
Both petrol and diesel models will be available, offering impressive fuel economy, power and torque. Customers will also have the choice of manual or automatic transmissions.
The eye-catching styling is emphasized by the trapezoidal grille, complemented by a raked bonnet and bold, elongated headlamps.
Sweeping, curved lines flowing from the front to the rear create a sense of movement. The five-door hatch incorporates a rising roofline with a sporty spoiler and neat tailgate accentuated by two distinct crease lines. The sedan version echoes the theme and adds improved loading capacity.
The interior is also completely new, with an attractive design that provides high levels of comfort and space, complemented with impressive quality and attention to detail.
Innovative smart features that will impress tech-savvy buyers include (depending on model) a new device-docking station that serves as the driver’s connection point to the world of mobility, Bluetooth with Voice Activation, the programmable MyKey® function, as well as electronic automatic temperature control.
Safety is also a top priority, with a minimum of dual front airbags, extending to full-length side airbags. This is backed up by ABS brakes across the range, plus Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) with Hill Launch Assist on the top derivatives.By Rokkit

Ford Motor Company today announced that the all-new Ford Mustang will deliver 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration in under 5 seconds – making it the fastest accelerating high-volume Ford model ever offered in Europe.
The company also revealed that more than 2,200 customers have ordered an all-new Ford Mustang since the iconic car became available to order across Europe earlier this year.
The Ford Mustang – on sale in Europe for the first time in the car’s 50-year history – is available with Ford’s 5.0-litre V8 engine delivering 421 PS and 530 Nm of torque, or the more fuel-efficient 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine delivering 317 PS and 432 Nm of torque.
The 5.0-litre V8 fastback model with six-speed manual transmission reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standing start in 4.8 seconds – faster than any Ford in the Europe since the low-volume Ford GT supercar launched in 2005. The Ford Mustang 2.3-litre EcoBoost fastback manual reaches the marker in 5.8 seconds.
Ford Mustang drivers can optimise the car’s performance to suit their mood and driving conditions using Selectable Drive Modes, and away from the public highway can use Track Apps to monitor driving performance. Ford Mustang 5.0-litre V8 drivers also can achieve the fastest possible acceleration off the line on the track assisted by Launch Control technology. Mustang also delivers up to 0.97 g-force when cornering.
“The new Ford Mustang will be wickedly fast off the line and throw you back in your seat with a thrilling engine soundtrack,” said Hermann Salenbauch, Mustang vehicle line director. “But Mustang isn’t just fast in a straight line. The ride and handling will be a revelation for European drivers.”
Equipped with Ford’s 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine the new Ford Mustang also delivers up to 8.0 l/100 km (35.3 mpg) fuel efficiency and 179 g/km CO2 emissions.*
Fun on road and track
The all-new Ford Mustang’s high performance engines are supported by a standard Performance Pack in Europe that delivers uprated brakes and cooling for high-speed driving. A sophisticated chassis and body structure, and advanced technology, also help optimise driving dynamics to deliver the sporty experience Ford Mustang customers demand.
Selectable Drive Modes are controlled using toggle switches in the centre console and adjust the AdvanceTrac electronic stability control, throttle response, automatic gear-shift patterns, and steering to match Normal, Sport+, Track or Snow/Wet settings. Selectable Effort Electric Power Assisted Steering enables drivers to choose a Normal, Comfort or Sport steering weight and feel.
To help drivers get the most from the car at the track, the Ford Mustang also delivers Track Apps that can be controlled via the steering wheel and viewed in the instrument panel, including accelerometer, acceleration timer and brake performance, which measures braking time and distance from a set speed.
Available for the 5.0-litre V8 with manual transmission, the Launch Control system holds the engine at a pre-set value between 3,000 rpm and 4,500 rpm with the accelerator fully depressed. When the clutch is released, torque delivery to the rear wheels is controlled for maximum traction and consistent standing starts. An electronic Line Lock system also available for the 5.0-litre V8 applies only the front brakes, allowing drivers to the warm the rear tyres.
The Ford Mustang uses fully independent suspension front and rear for sporty dynamics and comfort, including integral-link rear suspension that optimises ride comfort and mechanical grip, and double-ball-joint front MacPherson struts that enable large, powerful brakes without affecting steering feel.
The body structure is 28 per cent stiffer than the previous generation Mustang. Weight distribution of 54 per cent at the front for the 5.0-litre V8 and 53 per cent at the front for the 2.3‑litre EcoBoost contributes to responsive and precise handling.
Lightweight materials include aluminium used for the bonnet, front wings, suspension, transmission and brakes. High-strength steels, laser welding and hydro-forming techniques contribute to the stiffer body for an enhanced driving experience and safety.
Classic design and modern equipment
The new Ford Mustang is available in fastback and convertible bodystyles with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, and features classic design elements including three-dimensional, tri-bar taillamps, signature trapezoidal grille and shark-bite front fascia.
Ford has started production of the first European specification Ford Mustangs at its Flat Rock facility, Michigan, U.S., in 10 exterior colours and equipped as standard with 19-inch wheels, automatic HID headlamps, dual-zone climate control, LED tail lamps, and a rear diffuser.
Further standard equipment includes a nine-speaker sound system, and SYNC 2 voice control connectivity with 8-inch colour touch screen. Ford Mustang is exclusively available to order in Europe at new FordStore locations opening across the region primarily in metropolitan areas. The first vehicles are set to reach dealerships continental Europe from July and the U.K. from October.By Rokkit
