Ford Motor Company today announced that the all-new Ford Mustang will deliver 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration in under 5 seconds – making it the fastest accelerating high-volume Ford model ever offered in Europe.
The company also revealed that more than 2,200 customers have ordered an all-new Ford Mustang since the iconic car became available to order across Europe earlier this year.
The Ford Mustang – on sale in Europe for the first time in the car’s 50-year history – is available with Ford’s 5.0-litre V8 engine delivering 421 PS and 530 Nm of torque, or the more fuel-efficient 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine delivering 317 PS and 432 Nm of torque.
The 5.0-litre V8 fastback model with six-speed manual transmission reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standing start in 4.8 seconds – faster than any Ford in the Europe since the low-volume Ford GT supercar launched in 2005. The Ford Mustang 2.3-litre EcoBoost fastback manual reaches the marker in 5.8 seconds.
Ford Mustang drivers can optimise the car’s performance to suit their mood and driving conditions using Selectable Drive Modes, and away from the public highway can use Track Apps to monitor driving performance. Ford Mustang 5.0-litre V8 drivers also can achieve the fastest possible acceleration off the line on the track assisted by Launch Control technology. Mustang also delivers up to 0.97 g-force when cornering.
“The new Ford Mustang will be wickedly fast off the line and throw you back in your seat with a thrilling engine soundtrack,” said Hermann Salenbauch, Mustang vehicle line director. “But Mustang isn’t just fast in a straight line. The ride and handling will be a revelation for European drivers.”
Equipped with Ford’s 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine the new Ford Mustang also delivers up to 8.0 l/100 km (35.3 mpg) fuel efficiency and 179 g/km CO2 emissions.*
Fun on road and track
The all-new Ford Mustang’s high performance engines are supported by a standard Performance Pack in Europe that delivers uprated brakes and cooling for high-speed driving. A sophisticated chassis and body structure, and advanced technology, also help optimise driving dynamics to deliver the sporty experience Ford Mustang customers demand.
Selectable Drive Modes are controlled using toggle switches in the centre console and adjust the AdvanceTrac electronic stability control, throttle response, automatic gear-shift patterns, and steering to match Normal, Sport+, Track or Snow/Wet settings. Selectable Effort Electric Power Assisted Steering enables drivers to choose a Normal, Comfort or Sport steering weight and feel.
To help drivers get the most from the car at the track, the Ford Mustang also delivers Track Apps that can be controlled via the steering wheel and viewed in the instrument panel, including accelerometer, acceleration timer and brake performance, which measures braking time and distance from a set speed.
Available for the 5.0-litre V8 with manual transmission, the Launch Control system holds the engine at a pre-set value between 3,000 rpm and 4,500 rpm with the accelerator fully depressed. When the clutch is released, torque delivery to the rear wheels is controlled for maximum traction and consistent standing starts. An electronic Line Lock system also available for the 5.0-litre V8 applies only the front brakes, allowing drivers to the warm the rear tyres.
The Ford Mustang uses fully independent suspension front and rear for sporty dynamics and comfort, including integral-link rear suspension that optimises ride comfort and mechanical grip, and double-ball-joint front MacPherson struts that enable large, powerful brakes without affecting steering feel.
The body structure is 28 per cent stiffer than the previous generation Mustang. Weight distribution of 54 per cent at the front for the 5.0-litre V8 and 53 per cent at the front for the 2.3‑litre EcoBoost contributes to responsive and precise handling.
Lightweight materials include aluminium used for the bonnet, front wings, suspension, transmission and brakes. High-strength steels, laser welding and hydro-forming techniques contribute to the stiffer body for an enhanced driving experience and safety.
Classic design and modern equipment
The new Ford Mustang is available in fastback and convertible bodystyles with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, and features classic design elements including three-dimensional, tri-bar taillamps, signature trapezoidal grille and shark-bite front fascia.
Ford has started production of the first European specification Ford Mustangs at its Flat Rock facility, Michigan, U.S., in 10 exterior colours and equipped as standard with 19-inch wheels, automatic HID headlamps, dual-zone climate control, LED tail lamps, and a rear diffuser.
Further standard equipment includes a nine-speaker sound system, and SYNC 2 voice control connectivity with 8-inch colour touch screen. Ford Mustang is exclusively available to order in Europe at new FordStore locations opening across the region primarily in metropolitan areas. The first vehicles are set to reach dealerships continental Europe from July and the U.K. from October.
The new Ford B-MAX, which is scheduled for launch in South Africa in the third quarter of this year, features a unique design, superb fuel economy and unrivalled small car technology, making it among the most advanced compact cars on the market.
“The Ford B-MAX really challenges traditional small car thinking,” says Tracey Delate, General Marketing Manager at Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA). “Its ingenious design opens the doors – quite literally – to exciting new ideas about what's possible with a compact vehicle.”
Based on Ford’s global B-car platform – shared with the highly successful new Fiesta – the B-MAX represents the company’s vision for a premium compact multi-activity vehicle (MAV), combining outstanding space and versatility within a smart and stylish exterior.
The B-MAX’s Ford Easy Access Door System provides unobstructed entry and exit with hinged front doors and pillarless rear sliding doors, integrating the central body pillars into the doors rather than it being part of the bodyshell itself.
When both front and rear doors are open there is outstanding access to the interior, with a huge, clear aperture of 1.5 metres wide, making it significantly easier to enter or exit the rear seats, attend to children in child seats, or load and unload shopping.
The flexible seating system features 60/40 split rear seats that can be folded flat with a simple “one-hand, one-motion” mechanism. Ford engineers developed innovative solutions to ensure the B-MAX delivers the same outstanding levels of crash protection as vehicles with a more conventional structure.
This exciting new model also achieves exceptional fuel economy and low CO2 emissions. Although the full line-up will only be revealed at launch, the range will include the 3 times “International Engine of the Year” 1.0-litre Ford EcoBoost petrol engine.
The innovative new B-MAX offers a wide range of Ford’s latest smart technologies, including SYNC®, Ford’s voice-activated in-car connectivity system. It is also equipped with Ford MyKey® functionality, an auto dimming rear view mirror and full length panoramic roof.
B-MAX is true to the Ford fun-to-drive brand DNA with superlative driving dynamics featuring Torque Vectoring Control for superior traction and cornering. The car offers outstanding agility and manoeuvrability designed for the cut and thrust of city driving.
Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) has extended the Fiesta range with the fitment of the award-winning 1.0 EcoBoost engine across a wider range of models, and the addition of a further two 1.0 EcoBoost models equipped with the advanced PowerShift automatic transmission.
“We have extended the superb 1.0 EcoBoost engine to more models to offer our customers improved performance, lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions,” says Tracey Delate, General Marketing Manager, Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa.
“The advanced PowerShift automatic transmission is now available across all three specification grades, ensuring that we’re able to satisfy the growing demand for compact automatic models.
“At the same time, we have revised the pricing of the Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost models to make it even more attractive. The Fiesta, therefore, offers even better value for money and makes Ford’s popular B-segment hatchback more appealing than ever.”
The 1.0 EcoBoost won International Engine of the Year for the past three years in a row (2012 to 2014), and offers exceptional performance matched to frugal consumption.
It is now also available in the new Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost PowerShift Ambiente, an entry-level model with the sophisticated six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for seamless power delivery and rapid shifts. It combines the efficiency, optimised gear ratios and driving enjoyment of a manual gearbox with the smoothness and ease-of-use of a conventional automatic.
Later this year the 1.0 EcoBoost Ambiente with manual transmission will be added to the line-up to complete the Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost range.
The Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost Titanium is also now available with the PowerShift transmission, thus providing the option of manual or automatic derivatives across the entire range in Ambiente, Trend and Titanium versions.
In the case of the five-speed manual derivatives, the 1.0 EcoBoost delivers 92kW of power and 170Nm of torque. Combined cycle fuel consumption is rated at 4.3 l/100 km* with a CO2 emissions rating of 99 g/km*.
On the PowerShift derivatives, the torque remains unchanged at 170Nm, with power rated at 74kW. Average fuel consumption is 4.9 l/100km* with CO2 emissions of 114 g/km.
All models are sold with a four-year/120 000km comprehensive warranty, four-year/60 000km service plan, three-year/unlimited km roadside assistance and five-year/unlimited km corrosion warranty.
Service intervals are every 20 000km on the EcoBoost petrol engines, and 15 000km for the TDCi derivatives.
