As Spring arrived, we at Ford Umhlanga made the commitment to go green to put a positive impact on the environment. As a result, we decided that all employees across all departments would participate. Due to the pollution in the air, our surrounding area needed an Eco-Friendly boost to assist our environment, so we decided to give back to nature.
Researching what plant would be the best fit, we came across the Spekboom, a succulent plant native to South Africa. Among its many Spekboom facts is that it is indigenous to the province of the Eastern Cape and is revered as a miracle plant. Bright green, small-leaved plant found in Southern Africa looks ordinary, but don't be fooled - it is very special!
Below are a few of the many fascinating facts about this plant.
#1 Leaves are Edible
The taste of spekboom leaf is pleasant but changes throughout the day as the sun rises and sets. During the day leaves have an acid flavour and become less acidic towards the evening. The delicious greenery is heavily browsed by game and a firm favourite of several wild animals, especially elephants!
#2 Communities Use Spekboom Leaves for Their Medicinal Values
The leaves are used medicinally and in traditional home construction.
#3 It Helps to Fight Climate Change and Air Pollution
This plant helps to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by acting as a carbon sponge, improving the quality of the air we breathe. More specifically, spekboom can absorb between four and ten tonnes of carbon per hectare. This incredible tree uses carbon to make plant tissue and produce oxygen. According to The Spekboom Foundation, spekboom’s capacity to offset harmful carbon emissions is compared to that of moist, subtropical forests. This remarkable plant is unique in that it stores solar energy to perform photosynthesis at night. This makes a spekboom thicket 10 times more effective per hectare at carbon fixing than any tropical rainforest.”
For the staff at Ford Umhlanga, this was a beautiful and memorable day as each employee got the opportunity to plant their very own Spekboom at the front entrance of our dealership. This definitely was motivating to everyone involved and really touched a special place in their heart knowing that we played our part in the fight against global warming by simply planting a spekboom plant at our dealership!!!

As the follow up to the success of the limited-edition Ford Ranger Thunder in 2020, Ford is introducing another unique and appealing iteration – the Ranger Stormtrak.
In the Stormtrak variant, the Ranger gains several muscular, attention-grabbing design elements, including a striking black mesh grille with red inserts, a black insert in the lower section of the front bumper, black decals for the bonnet and doors, black roof rails and 18-inch alloy wheels finished in gloss black and illuminated front scuff plates.
Further identifying this limited-edition Ranger’s special status are three-dimensional Stormtrak logos on the lower sections of the front doors and on the rear tailgate. The upcoming introduction of the Ranger Stormtrak also sees the vibrant new paint colour, Lucid Red.
The Ranger Stormtrak doesn’t just gain special treatment on the styling front. Everyday practicality has been elevated too, thanks to the standard fitment of Ford’s new Power Roller Shutter for the rear load compartment, complemented by the tailgate locking mechanism integrated into the vehicle’s central locking system.
The adjustable bed divider kit makes it easy for the owner to compartmentalise the cargo area according to the size of the items being carried, adding further versatility. A drop-in Bedliner provides a useful 12-volt socket for powering accessories such as a camping fridge.
Stepping into the cabin, we see premium leather seats that incorporate striking red stitching and the Stormtrak logo taking pride in the front seat backrests. Red stitching is used throughout the leather-trimmed cabin, further enhancing the sporty ambience.
As with the Ranger Wildtrak, the premium level of standard features is exceptional, including the SYNC®3 infotainment system with embedded navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and FordPass functionality that allows the owner to remotely access numerous vehicle features from their phone.
Innovative active and passive safety systems and driver aids are also standard, such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Forward Collision Alert, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keeping Alert and Lane Keeping Aid, Driver Alert System, and Semi-Automatic Parallel Park Assist.
The Ranger Stormtrak is powered by Ford’s 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo engine, producing 157kW and 500Nm. It is paired with an advanced 10-speed automatic transmission that delivers seamless shifts matched to the responsive performance and impressive fuel economy. The Ranger’s towing capacity of 3 500kg remains unchanged, along with the 800mm water wading depth and 230mm ground clearance.
