This Autumn, Ford proudly presents the Ford FX4, a boastful beast that comes with all the bells and whistles.

Bold red ‘FX4” decals located at the base of the front doors, embossed “FX4” logos on the front seat, along with a 3D “FX4” badge on the tailgate shows that this beast has little room for humility, but has all the specs to prove its prowess. Keyless Passive Entry and Passive Start, including dual-zone automatic climate control, a rear-view parking camera, front and back sensors, would be our usual bragging points but the Fx4 is so much more.

SYNC3 with voice activation, an eight-inch touch-screen colour display, two USB ports and Bluetooth, Apple car play and android auto to facilitate numerous smartphone functions such as google maps and Waze. But this comes standard and the FX4 has so much more.

The FX4 signals the introduction of groundbreaking technology, Ford Pass Connect and the Ford Pass app. The app allows customers to gain command and control over various vehicle functions including locking and unlocking doors, engine start, activating the climate control system, finding the vehicles location and even access to the vehicle’s fuel level and oil life, all this at the customer’s fingertips.

Once the app is paired with the Ranger, the customer will be able to schedule maintenance and service bookings, locate ford dealerships nationwide, keep track of past and future services and view the vehicles warranty information. In addition, the FordPass app enables direct access to Fords Roadside assistance service, just to emphasise that your convenience is our priority. Since we believe in spoiling our customers, FordPass connect will be available in all Ranger models produced from 2017 onwards.

The FX4 comes with additional active safety features such as Hill Launch Assist, Roll-over Mitigation, adaptive load control, Trailer Sway Control, Electronic Stability Programme with traction control and emergency brake assist because with the FX4 there is always so much more.

We are so thrilled to announce that the new Ranger FX4 has arrived at CMH Ford Gezina! It has been an exciting past year with Ford and the Ranger family grew significantly in the past few months with the introduction of the Ranger Thunder (based on the WIldtrak) and the Ranger XL Sport. I’m sure you are aware of how unique, eye-catching and kitted-out the new Ranger members are, and let me tell you, the Ranger FX4 are also here to turn some heads and to stand out from the crowd.

The FX4 slots in just below the Thunder and Wildtrak models and just above the Ranger XLT on which it is based. It is exclusively available with the 2.0L Single Turbo powertrain mated with a ten-speed automatic transmission and in Double Cab only with the choice of 4x2 or 4x4.

It has a unique identity with a new Ebony Black mesh grille, an extended sports bar with matching Ebony Black exterior mirrors, door handles and tailgate handle. Some other exterior features include new 18-inch black alloy wheels, darkened LED headlamps, FX4 side decals and a 3D badge on the tailgate which gives this truck a bold and tough look, ready to hit the road or some heavy 4x4 trails.

The FX4 interior features include a leather soft topper on the dash with red stitching, new partial leather seats with FX4 logos and red stitching, a mirror mounted USB port to make every dash cam user’s life easier to power it without messy cables (you’re welcome), and lastly a drop-in bedliner with a power socket at the back.

Introducing the FordPass – The app for Ford owners

Ford Ranger FX4 customers will be part of the first group to have access to an enhanced ownership experience with the introduction of the FordPass Connect app. Unlock a new world of services conveniently available in the palm of your hand and experience a new way of communicating with your Ford. Using an implanted modem in the vehicle, a whole range of features are enabled on the owner’s smartphone. New Ranger XL, XLS, XLT, Wildtrak and Ranger Raptor models produced from February 2021 will also be able to connect and enjoy all the features of the new innovative app and smart mobility.

FordPass connected vehicle features:

• Use your phone to start your vehicle remotely
• Schedule a remote start any day, any time
• Remotely lock or unlock the doors from virtually anywhere
• Vehicle locator
• Vehicle status allows you to check vitals such as fuel level, tire pressure and mileage even when you’re not behind the wheel
• Receive vehicle health alerts directly to your smartphone

The FordPass app is also compatible with Ranger models produced from 2017, providing selected vehicle, warranty and maintenance information, as well as the available search functions for dealers, fuel stations and parking. However, without the FordPass Connect modem, none of the location, command or control functions is available.

We recently had the opportunity to invite our clients once again to a 4×4 off-road training day held at Killarney 4x4 Trail. Our clients get to enjoy the day out with us and learn more about their 4×4 vehicles. The practical knowledge and exposure to suitable terrain and to learn more always proves to be a huge hit with our clients.

The day started with a drive through Shongweni Valley, the views and sounds of the mountains were incredible. We all met at the Killarney Trail at 08:00 am our instructor, Travis, started by introducing our customers to a basic 4×4 track day, he showed us the basics of 4×4 driving and the controls on how to recover the vehicle safely, should they get stuck. We then went up and down some steep hills and over a few challenging obstacles.

More 4×4 Challenges

The second part of the course involved the ’Slippery’ hill with the wet terrain it sure proved to be a test for our learning clients, which they all passed with flying colours. Our day progressed to the challenge on the two railings, where you must very carefully line up your wheels perfectly on the two rails and drive from one side to the other without sliding off. This proved very difficult, but all the customers managed to achieve this obstacle with absolute confidence.

After the exhilarating experience on the tracks, everybody came back on-site and had pre-packed picnic baskets as no braais / large gatherings are permissible due to COVID-19. Our clients had the pleasure of using the trail for the entire day and some clients were more than eager to go back out alone in the mountains. The aim of the day? For our clients to learn as much as they can about their vehicles and leaving the day with pride and confidence in their 4X4. We would highly recommend this to all that have 4×4 vehicles, this was such an adventurous and fun-filled day out with our family and loyal customers.
